Southlake Home Theater - Hi Fi Up High

The third floor of this Southlake, TX home was finished out as a theater with a bar in the back. Very few homes, even in Southlake, have a third story so this was a very unique aspect of the home already. The client wanted complete control of the audio video system along with control of the lighting and thermostat. A Control4 automation system was installed with Control4 dimmers and thermostat. This will serve as the main controller as other rooms in the house are added to the Control4 system and automated. The equipment is housed in a back cabinet with a rotating equipment rack from AVrack.

The screen is recessed into the full acoustic wall. Behind the screen there is still 4” of acoustic absorption material to reduce sound reflections.

The Control4 on screen display lets you control the cinema, lighting, thermostat and even pull up camera feeds from an IP camera.

The entrance to the media room is well lit with sconces and an overhead light that are each on a Control4 dimmer.

The beautiful Paradigm Signature C3 and S4 speakers are held by Paradigm speaker stands. Each stand is filled with lead shot to stabilize the speaker and dampen any unwanted resonance.

Here is a close up of the acoustic wall looking at the ceiling above the door. There are several layers and each one is filled with acoustic absorption.

The back of the room showing the angled wall and JVC projector. The JVC pojectors use D-ILA technology and can achieve a much lower black level than DLP or LCD based projectors. A Peerless precision gear projector mount is used with a “cathedral ceiling” adapter for the angled wall. This is the proper way to mount projectors on an angled wall.

The equipment rack in the media room is supplied by AVRAK and can be pulled out and swiveled to access the back of the equipment. The Yamaha RX-Z7 Receiver supplies the Paradigm speakers with 140 Watts each and handles video switching and up-conversion for all of the other equipment in the rack. All of the equipment is protected by the Furman power conditioner with battery backup. If the power goes off for the house, the Furman will kick on and keep the media room going at least long enough for the home theater system to power down safely.
